Kaitlyn Shaw, President (Returning)
Kaitlyn Shaw is a skilled digital health leader who focuses on the human elements of technology adoption and fostering a culture of quality improvement to improve healthcare outcomes. In her current role as Senior Manager, Practice Transformation at Doctors of BC she leads a team of health informatics and technology professionals to provide advisory, advocacy, and coaching supports to facilitate the use of health technology in primary care. Kaitlyn has a history of working across many different sectors of healthcare including clinical research, biotechnology, and public health. She is passionate about driving transformation in health IM/IT through engagement, change management, and collaboration to help ensure technology is an enabler of healthcare delivery and integrated in a meaningful and effective way to support patients and providers.
Kaitlyn has served on the BCHIMSS board since 2021 in Program Director, Secretary, and President-Elect roles and is excited about the opportunity to move into the President role and continue working with an amazing group of digital health enthusiasts to bring positive change to our healthcare community.
Danea Avey, President-Elect (Returning)
Danea Avey is a seasoned Senior Project Manager with the eHealth Projects team at the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), bringing over 25 years of dedicated experience in project management. She is known for her adept leadership in driving complex digital transformation initiatives within British Columbia healthcare, specializing in assembling and guiding high-performance hybrid and agile teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance healthcare delivery.
Throughout her career, Danea has overseen numerous infrastructure projects, technical integrations, and application builds across diverse clinical settings. Her extensive 18-year tenure in healthcare underscores her deep understanding of operational intricacies and the critical role of technology in patient care.
Danea is highly regarded for her collaborative approach, emphasizing transparent communication and fostering a culture of creativity within her teams. Beyond her professional achievements, she demonstrates a strong commitment to community service including her leadership of the BCHIMSS mentorship program and volunteer service with the BC PMI chapter, making significant contributions to the professional development of others in her field.
Jennifer Charters, Past-President (Returning)
Jennifer has spent more than ten years driving value to digital health and technology initiatives in BC with roles spanning the public and private sector and has served four years on the BCHIMSS board of directors. Passionate about using technology to effectively address challenges in the health system, she is a problem solver and connector of people, organizations, and ideas. Jennifer is prioritizing two themes for the upcoming board term: connection for members and organizations within B.C. and from jurisdictions, and recognition to highlight innovative work underway by members across the province.
Jennifer leads the Azure business for provincial government and healthcare at Microsoft Canada, she and her team support provincial health organizations from coast to coast to coast in adopting cloud technologies to advance health system goals. She previously worked as a Senior Manager at the Provincial Health Services Authority supporting complex eHealth provincial projects in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, and has experience in primary and community care from her time at the Doctors of BC.
Jennifer lives in Port Moody with her husband and young daughter, and as a person living with Multiple Sclerosis is also an 'avid consumer' of health services and brings the patient and caregiver perspective to her approach. She's excited to have the opportunity to further BC's health ecosystem through information and technology as President of the British Columbia Chapter of HIMSS.
Stephanie Chicoine, Treasurer (Returning)
Stephanie Chicoine is the Senior Business Manager for Healthcare in Western Canada at Microsoft, managing all Microsoft business in relation to our largest healthcare customers and partners. Previously the Healthcare Lead for Western Canada at Microsoft where she oversaw the portfolio of Microsoft and partner solutions for all Healthcare accounts in Western Canada and supported them in their digital transformation. Stephanie was also the lead for Microsoft’s involvement for the Secure Health Data Genomics Project for the Canadian Super Cluster. Previous to this role, Stephanie was the Azure lead for Canadian Healthcare and has extensive knowledge of Healthcare applications and data interoperability. Stephanie has helped organizations bring over 25 medical applications to market. Before Microsoft, Stephanie was working with the Federal Government and Pharma to launch healthcare solutions and applications and spent five years at Telus Health.
Jelena Kalyvas, Secretary (New)
Jelena is an experienced project manager specializing in the strategic delivery of health technology solutions within British Columbia. Currently, she serves as a Project Manager with PHSA Digital Health Innovation, where she supports the provincial Health Gateway project. Previously, Jelena has delivered various solution implementations with Lower Mainland Health Information Management and TELUS Health.
With a Bachelor of Science in Health Informatics and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in healthcare, Jelena is dedicated to continuing to listen, learn, and work to improve access to quality health information. She is a strong advocate for patient-partnered strategic delivery and promoting the patient voice to be at the forefront of health technology advancements.
Monika Dhaliwal, Director of Programming (Returning)
Monika Dhaliwal is an accomplished Healthcare IT leader, currently serving as the Senior Manager for Implementation at the Provincial Health Services Authority in British Columbia. She holds a BSc from the University of Victoria in Health Information Sciences and certification in IT project management from McMaster University. With a solid background of experience in the healthcare industry, Monika has supported a wide range of teams while supporting the Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) project, considered the largest Oracle Health activation in North America in terms of scope (i.e. functionality). She served as manager to the Health Information Records Management and Document Imaging team for over 3 years, and currently is the Senior Manager for the Implementation team. Monika is passionate about implementation methodologies and complex project delivery. Being a leader in this domain allows her to share her expertise, foster knowledge exchange, and establish strong relationships with organization partners. Monika has been selected as a speaker for the 2023 Oracle Health North America Conference. Monika is looking forward to utilize her 10 years of experience and commitment in the field of digital health to contribute to the BCHIMSS board's objectives.
Joumana Ghali, Director of Sponsorship (Returning)
Joumana Ghali is a project management professional with an extensive background spanning over 10 years. Having worked in health informatics in various regions which include Australia, Ontario, British Columbia (BC), Alberta, and Yukon, she brings a diverse range of experiences and a deep understanding of project management dynamics in different contexts. Joumana Ghali is currently a senior project manager consultant working with VCH on the Clinical System Transformation Project and is also working with the Yukon on the implementation of net new IT solutions across the province.
Recognized as a problem solver and driven by a passion for enhancing healthcare safety, Joumana is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of citizens across BC by making healthcare more accessible and our information shared by all providers. She consistently seeks innovative solutions and leverages her project management skills to optimize processes, streamline workflows, and create safer environments for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
With a unique expertise in go lives having planned over 10+, she has carved out a special niche in successfully executing complex implementation processes. Her ability to navigate high-pressure environments and ensure seamless transitions during critical periods sets them apart. Most recently in 2022 she led the largest inpatient patient cutover in Western Canada, orchestrating a smooth transition that significantly impacted the healthcare landscape. Outside of implementations professional pursuits, Joumana is an advocate for community engagement and is actively involved in initiatives that focus on building community within neighbourhoods.
Lentic Li, Director of Mentorship (New)
Lentic Li is a dedicated Senior Business Analyst with over four years of experience in healthcare who embraces lifelong learning and possesses a deep passion for leveraging technology to enhance patient outcomes and streamline healthcare operations. Lentic's career is characterized by a strong foundation in problem-solving and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that each project she undertakes delivers meaningful results.
During her tenure at PHSA, Lentic has sharpened her expertise in requirement analysis, project management, and stakeholder engagement. She collaborates closely with clinical staff, IT professionals, and administrators, driven by a commitment to making a positive impact through her work. Lentic is enthusiastic about ongoing growth in the field of health informatics, where she aims to bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to address complex challenges.
Mauree Aki Matsusaka, Director of Memberships (Returning)
As a strategic project and digital health leader, Mauree has built her career around helping organizations navigate complexity and adapt to new technology, policy and process change. She currently works as the Digital Health Innovation Engagement & Partnerships Lead and as a Senior Manager within the Provincial Digital Solutions portfolio. She is a PROSCI-trained Change Management Specialist, Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) and Certified Agile Scrummaster (CSM) who is passionate about helping healthcare practitioners and organizations embrace innovation and increase capacity in the areas of interoperability, workflow optimization, privacy & security and virtual care.
Mauree is passionate about engaging stakeholders early and often throughout the design and implementation process of all her projects, ensuring that the user experience is centered in how we leverage technology solutions to streamline clinical workflows; tackle ‘wicked’ and complex problems in the healthcare space; break down institutionalized silos; and support improved team-based care collaboration across organizations and practitioner groups.
Naima Salemohamed, Director of Conference (Returning)
Naima Salemohamed is a management consultant and a social media ninja. She is passionate about stakeholder engagement and the patient journey navigating our healthcare system. She is an advocate for bringing change management into her work and is curious about how social media plays a role in the Health IT space. She can be found online having conversations about healthcare and sharing relevant content to spark constructive discussions. In her role in Accenture, her latest work includes managing major releases for the Supply Management Stream for the vaccine rollout in British Columbia and liaising with a variety of health authority stakeholders.
Naima has worked in the health informatics industry for over 8 years and her experience includes working at TELUS Health for 3 years delivering Home Health Monitoring solutions for COVID and Chronic Disease patients across Canada. In addition to Telus, her private sector experience also includes working with a program to optimize EMRs for primary care: an EMR for BC Corrections and the Health Information Access Layer Project in Ontario. She is a graduate of the UVIC Health Information Science Program. After her undergraduate degree, she also completed an MSc in Health Services Research specializing in Health Informatics at the University of Toronto.
Naima is an experienced volunteer and networker within the Digital Health Canada community. Naima has sat on variety of conference planning committees; mentored students interested in pursuing Health Informatics and has taught undergraduate health informatics courses. Outside of the Digital Health community, she currently sits on the BC Women’s Hospital Foundation Glow Gala Committee. In December 2021, she was awarded the Digital Health Canada Emerging Leader Award.
Maggie Wei, Director of Partnerships (Returning)
Maggie Wei is a seasoned Senior Project Manager specializing in health technology projects, with a robust background in leading digital transformation initiatives. Maggie has successfully managed and executed numerous Oracle Health implementations and is currently at the forefront of advancing provincial digital solutions, driving innovation and efficiency in BC's healthcare systems. Maggie is PMP and Azure certified.
She is dedicated to fostering collaboration and excellence in health information technology and the intersection with education and professional development. This will be Maggie's focus during her second term on the BC HIMSS board as the Partnership Director.
Living in East Vancouver, Maggie loves the vibrant community and enjoys spending time with her husband and family. She's passionate about her city and embraces the rich cultural and natural beauty it offers. Outside of work, you can often find her exploring local spots and enjoying quality time with loved ones.
